Hockey Figures - NHL Series 3 (Series 5) and Team Canada

The Toy Fair 2002 feature on the official McFarlane Toys website, spawn.com, includes news of the next set of the NHL figures from the company. This is to be released - in the States at least - in October 2002 and includes nine figures, 3 netminders and 6 skaters.

Similar to the second NHL series (Series 4 overall) this next set will include two figures which are simply repaints of figures released in Series 2, before McFarlane Toys won the NHL licence and the ability to include the NHL logos etc.

The line-up for this Series is - Chris Osgood (Islanders), Olaf Kolzig (Capitals), Roman Turek (Flames), Alexander Mogilny (Maple Leafs), Mike Modano (Stars), Scott Stevens (Devils), Joe Sakic (Avalanche), Mark Messier (Rangers) and Pavel Bure (Panthers) with the last two being the repaints. No pictures of the Kolzig and Turek figures have been published yet but I will add them once they are available (pictures noiw added!). The pictures that have been released show that the high standards set with the previous figures continues to be met.

Also announced on spawn.com is two limited edition boxsets - with four figures in each - to celebrate Team Canada’s gold medal win at the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City this year. The players included are: Box 1 - Mario Lemieux, Steve Yzerman, Curtis Joseph and Chris Pronger; Box 2 - Joe Sakic, Paul Kariya, Martin Brodeur and Eric Lindros. All are repaints of existing or forthcoming figures already announced but they look great - unfortunately (for me in England at least!) they are to be exclusive to Wal-Mart Canada! Looks like I’ll have to hit eBay once these have been released!!
